The seventeen members of the senior class of Machon Madrichim, teen leadership institute, will be practicing their programming skills in Edmonton during the first weekend of December. They are attending the Alberta BBYO region’s LTI convention and will lead several programs for other Western Canadian Jewish teens. They will also volunteer in the community by leading a program on Israel for Jewish school children.
The planning for this initiative was spearheaded by Dov (Dubi) Shlenger, Machon Madrichim Director in an effort to gather teens from across Western Canada, allowing them to experience the larger Jewish community. While other teens are planning to attend from Saskatchewan and B.C., only the Winnipeg Madrichim will be leading three programs on Jewish leadership for the whole group of approximately 100 teens who will gather in Edmonton. This is the first gathering of its kind, exposing Winnipeg Madrichim to their peers from Western Canadian communities.
